Fredrik Erixon talks to Frank Lavin about the overall direction of Chinese security and economic policies after the 20th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party that was held between 16-22 October 2022. They focus on the political relations with Taiwan and Russia and economic influence on the neighbouring countries in Asia. The discussion also brings up critical dependency and bilateral ties with Europe and the United States.
Frank Lavin was the Undersecretary of Commerce for International Trade and the lead trade negotiator for China. He has been Political Director at the White House and U.S. Ambassador to Singapore in his government career. Lavin has also had senior leadership positions in the banking and marketing business and has helped many companies to succeed in China. He is the founder and chairman of Export Now and is currently a Visiting Fellow at the Hoover Institution. He regularly writes about U.S. foreign and economic policy for newspapers and journals.
