ECIPE Webinar: National Security, Innovation and Telecoms – A New Era

December 04 2024
Venue: ZOOM Webinar
Speakers: Jonathan Barnett, Andrei Iancu, Fredrik Erixon
Time: 15:00

Join us for an online discussion on EU and US telecommunication policies, Europe's market struggles, and new Transatlantic efforts needed to foster innovation.

It’s been a central plank in EU and US policies over the years to promote fast innovation and open markets in telecommunication. Now these policies have also geopolitical significance, with advanced telecommunication being central for modern warfare and growing concerns that competition from China erodes security structures and capabilities. In parallel, the market for telecommunication technology developers in Europe have been poor – weighed down by low demand for 5G equipment and new regulatory efforts that have sought to push down the margins of developers. It’s clear that new Transatlantic efforts are needed, but what direction should they take? What are the conditions needed for telecommunication development and innovation in America and Europe to flourish?
