ECIPE Webinar: Cloud Cybersecurity, Sovereignty, and EU Competitiveness

December 05 2024
Venue: ZOOM
Speakers: Maxime Ricard, Marcus Corry, Damien Rilliard
Time: 15:00

We will discuss Cloud Cybersecurity, Sovereignty, and EU Competitiveness.

The European Centre for International Political Economy (ECIPE) invites you to a timely seminar exploring the critical intersection of cloud cybersecurity and EU competitiveness. As the EU navigates its digital transformation, achieving the right balance between robust cybersecurity standards, digital sovereignty, and open market access is crucial to supporting growth, innovation, and competitiveness.

This session will briefly explore insights from ECIPE’s latest research. It will examine the economic impacts of exclusionary requirements under the EU Cybersecurity Certification Scheme (EUCS). The discussion will also address the significant ICT and cloud investment gap between the EU and the US. Additionally, the session will assess whether EU cloud policies truly support the competitiveness of SMEs, start-ups, and scale-ups, focusing on their ability to access affordable and innovative digital solutions. Finally, we will also discuss opportunities for the public sector to boost efficiency and productivity by adopting advanced cloud technologies, AI, and automation.

Key Discussion Points:

  1. How can the EU address its ICT and cloud investment gap to stay globally competitive?
  2. What are the economic and competitive implications of restrictive EUCS certification policies?
  3. How can cybersecurity policies support SMEs without compromising their competitiveness?
  4. What opportunities exist for the public sector to leverage advanced cloud, cloud-based AI, and automation?
  5. How does the growing supply of sovereignty clouds in the EU impact digital sovereignty, innovation, and competition?
